Field & Forest Homeschool Program - Spring Family Overnight
Wed, 30 May 2012 12:30:00 +0000
The Jewish Farm School's Field & Forest Homeschool Program offers groundbreaking full season farm to table and wilderness programming in a supportive Jewish environment for ages 4 through 14. Located at Eden Village Camp's 248 acres, just an hour north of New York City, the program empowers students to cultivate genuine lifelong connections to their food and to nature through innovative gardening, cooking, art, music, and wilderness experiences; all incorporating the natural rhythms of the Jewish calender and holiday cycles.
Whether planting trees, baking bread in an earth oven, sharing Chassidic stories around the fire, or packing Tzedakah boxes of homegrown produce for donation to a local food bank, students put ancient agricultural traditions into practice while participating in vibrant earth based community. We learn about soil, seeds, compost, insects, herbs, and orchards, in our fields, our kitchen, and in our tradition, through hands on growing and cooking projects. Our goats, bees, sheep, and chickens provide for our needs while teaching us about animal care and ethics. In the woods, we practice our navigation and safety skills, while learning to build primitive shelters, track animals, identify wild edibles, and make fire through friction. Art projects include printmaking, plant sketching, making costumes and paper mache shofars, and tons more!
The Field & Forest Homeschool Program inspires students to become thoughtful and engaged members of their environment and their worlds as they develop core skills of nature connection and community building while connecting to the ecological wisdom inherent in Judaism.
